4 Toddler-Friendly Trails on the North Shore

The crisp fall air this time of year just begs for an adventure outdoors. Luckily for us, we are surrounded by some of the region’s most beautiful parks and trails. Grab your toque and mittens, lace up your walking shoes and check out these family-friendly trails on the north shore:

1. Grand Boulevard Park Pathway

Grand Boulevard park has a both paved and gravel pathways that stretch from Keith Road all the way up to East 19th Street. Stop by Ray Perrault Park off of East 13th Street to enjoy the playground or for a quick washroom break. Keep an eye out for spooky Halloween decorations along either side of the Boulevard. 

2. Rice Lake Loop

The Rice Lake Loop is a 3km fairly flat, gravel pathway in the Lower Seymour Conservation Area right near Lynn Headwaters. This trail winds through the forest around the lake, providing beautiful views and many opportunities for the kids to spot wildlife such as rainbow trout, owls, snails and more. 

3. North Shore Spirit Trail

The North Shore Spirit Trail is a continuous, accessible greenway that will eventually extend from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay. This relatively flat pathway has gorgeous sections along the North Vancouver waterfront that make for an enjoyable family walk or bike ride. Great starting points for families include Lonsdale Quay, the Shipyards and Moodyville Park. 

4. Maplewood Flats Conservation Area

Maplewood Flats is located east of the 2nd Narrows Bridge off of the Old Dollarton Highway. The park is managed by the Wild Bird Trust of British Columbia and more than 200 types of birds and other critters are spotted here every year. The trail is an easy 2.5 km roundtrip and can be done year-round.
