The Teachers

LVPPP is lucky to have three teachers who bring to the classroom a passion and creativity that makes our preschool a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Simona Scoffone

Simona is our certified Early Childhood Educator with a passion for child development, and a love for play-based and child-centered approach. Simona believes in the importance of focusing on the children’s unique strengths to support them becoming confident individuals. Simona aims to create a safe, inclusive, loving environment for the children to freely explore and learn. Her passion for the field has led her to further her studies, and she is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care through the University of Victoria. Simona has worked with children and families for over a decade, and all over the world. In her free time, you’ll find her adventuring on the North Shore trails, either running, hiking or skiing.

Katie James

Katie is our Early Childhood Educator Assistant. Her teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in a play-based approach to learning – Katie is a true believer of learning taking place anywhere and at anytime. Katie has a BA from Simon Fraser University and a B.Ed from the University of British Columbia. She has spent the last several years as an early language interventionist in a language development centre in Vancouver. Katie hopes to bring new energy to our school with her love of bugs, her love of silly dancing and her love of teaching both inside and outside of the classroom. When Katie isn’t working, you’ll find her spending time with friends and family, going on adventures and playing any sport.

Elizabeth Reid

Elizabeth (Liz) is an award-winning educator with over four decades of experience at parent participation preschools. She keeps trying to retire but the children won’t let her! You’ll find her at the helm of our local nature walks, kicking a soccer ball in the nearby field, getting out the power tools for an art project or helping the kids grow plants. She’s a proponent of the play-based approach and aims to instill a sense of wonder and curiosity in each child. Through her fun and playful style, she encourages the children to learn self expression and we are delighted that she continues to bring her fantastic creativity to our school.

Magali Caron

Magali (Mag) is our special education teacher at Lynn Valley Preschool on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples. Mag is the wife of an Indigenous leader and has raised three adults, two having complex needs. Mag is inspired and in awe of the child’s natural ability to include, to create, to wonder, and to make meaning of their world through the medium of play. Mag has over 30 years of experience in special education, behavioral intervention and family advocacy and is enthusiastic about co-creating meaningful inclusion, citizenship and community in partnership with children. “C’mon let’s go play!”
