October Book Picks

As fall settles in and evenings get cooler, there’s no better activity than curling up with your little one and reading a good book. Our top book picks for this month feature all the seasonal must haves: crunchy leaves, turkeys, a witch and lots of pumpkins. Pick up these books at our local library, borrow from a friend or order online from your favourite bookstore.

1. We’re going on a leaf hunt, by Steve Metzger

We all love the crunchy, colourful leaves that decorate the ground this time of year. This beautiful book based on the popular song, We’re going on a lion hunt, follows three friends as they embark on an adventure to find colourful leaves.

2. Ten Fat Turkeys, by Rich Deas

Your little ones will gobble up this Thanksgiving story. Practice counting and share a laugh as you read through and see ten goofy turkeys roller-skating, dancing and more.

3. Room on the Broom, by Julia Donaldson

Join a friendly witch, her cat and a cast of characters as they all pile onto a broom in search of the witch’s lost hat, bow and wand.

4. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, by Charles M. Schulz

The beloved Peanuts classic follows Charlie Brown and the gang on Halloween night as they dress up, go trick-or-treating, and as Linus awaits the rise of the great pumpkin to bring gifts to all the good girls and boys.

5. The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin, by Sonali Fry

For a fun, seasonal and slightly spooky twist on another familiar tune, check out the Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin. Sing along as the little pumpkin tries to make its way home after rolling down the street.
